Bookish Thoughts

A place for me to share my thoughts about the books I read.

Sacrifice

Sacrifice - Cayla Kluver

Sacrifice is a very bittersweet ending to a wonderful series. As the characters adjust to their new reality we get to see not only Alera's struggles by Shaselle's as well. Having more than one POV is new to this series but overall I think it worked out well. At times I felt Shaselle's input was unneccessary but soon enough things began to tie together and I actually grew to like Shaselle to some extent. The plot is very realistic which can be an uncommon thing among fantasy books. I enjoyed how realistic Cayla Kluver made it as it brings everything the character's are experiencing home. I recommened this book and series.

Allegiance

Allegiance (Harlequin Teen) - Cayla Kluver

Allegiance was a great sequel to Legacy. You are quickly brought into the lives of your favorite characters once again. This plot is dark from the start and just gets darker which is a stark contrast to Legcay which only had dark undertones and refrences. In Alligience the brutality and suffering previously only mentioned becomes front and center. Cayla Kluver excellently portrays how such dark experiecies can change a person and this reflects through her characters. I recommened this book.

Legacy

Legacy - Cayla Kluver

Legacy was a wonderful fantasy story of duty, love and loyalty. I loved how each character evolved through out the book and that you could connect to all of them on some level. The plot was a bit typical YA with forbidden love but it had dark undertones that were never fully brought to light, teasing you with the promise of more. The twist ending was a great addition. I recommened this book especially to fantasy lovers in particular.

The Eternity Cure

The Eternity Cure - Julie Kagawa

I have so many feelings right now. First off I adore this book! It was even better than the first and the ending is killer. I am so glad it didn't let me down though with Julie Kagawa I wasn't worried. You learn so much in this book dragging you deeper and deeper in to the world. I really enjoyed learning more about the world and the characters. I love Kanin and Jackal, though disturbing at times, was hilarious! I'm not sure how I am going to last till the next book is published. I definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Snow In Summer

Snow in Summer: Fairest of Them All - Jane Yolen

Snow in Summer by Jane Yolen was a unique but fun read. It took a bit to get used to the unique writing style but once I did I really began enjoying the story. It is depressing for most of the book but in true fairy tale style you get a happily ever after. The plot was a seamless blend of modern time settings with magical happenings. I would forget the setting is in modern times several times until mention of something modern would remind me. The characters were very interesting. I didn't personally connect to any of them but I did care for some of them like Summer and Cousin Nancy. The book does switch points of view fairly regularly but having the chapter titles helped keep things straight so I never got confused after the first instance. Overall I would recommend this book, specifically to fairy tale lovers like me.

Love in Disguise

Love in Disguise - Carol Cox

Love in Disguise by Carol Cox is one of those books that isn't great but not terrible either. The synopsis had gripped me from the beginning and I can never pass up a mystery. Unfortunately it was slow starting. It may be that I'm impatient or easily distracted but I felt that the setup stage lasted far longer than in needed to. I almost put it down several times but I stuck to it and by chapter 19 the plot had picked up so much I was definitely interested. The strength of this book was more character based. I didn't feel a big connection but I did find myself caring for Ellie and wanting to know what happened to her which helped me keep reading. Over all I would recommend this book as library read. It isn't necessarily a buy worthy book

A Most Peculiar Circumstance

Most Peculiar Circumstance, A - Jen Turano

A Most Peculiar Circumstance by Jen Turano was a great, entertaining and heart-warming read from start to finish. Arabella had me laughing from the start with her witty comments and exciting adventures. Her relationship with Theodore was certainly evident but not in an overwhelming way. Each character shined with distinct personalities making you feel as if you actually know them. The plot was fantastic as well. It had the mystery and excitement without overshadowing the delightful personalities of the characters. Overall I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!

A special thanks to Bethany House for providing me the ARC.  I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed above are my own.

Chantress

Chantress - Amy Butler Greenfield Chantress was a face paced, heart pounding adventure from start to finish. It was amazing reading about a world so similar to our own but irrivocably altered by magic and fear. You come to care for the characters and feel what they feel. I wish there had been a little more depth to the Lord Protector. The book reveals some of what has happened to him and a bit about his motives but I wanted to learn more about what changed him so drasticlly. It isn't really neccessary but it would have been a nice touch. Overall I would recommened this as a quick fun read to those who enjoy tales of magic of any kind.

Cryer's Cross

Cryer's Cross - Lisa McMann So amazingly creepy! I was hooked through the whole thing and though a lot of it I could figure out before it was revealed there was enough mystery that I didn't completley know what was going on. I really recommened this to any horror/mystery/thriller lovers.

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden Series #1)

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden Series #1) -

Julie Kagawa has to be one of my favorite authors! I really liked this book it's plot was amazing and the writing compelling as usual. It only had a few things that bugged me but nothing that interfered with my enjoyment of the book. The Immortal Rules is a gripping story of survival and forbidden feelings. I loved and hated characters and became totally immersed in their stories. This book was thrilling, mysterious and heart wrenching the entire way. I definitely recommend this book!

The Devouring

The Devouring - Simon Holt There is nothing like a great horror story and this book deliviers! Unlike other supposed "horror" stories the horror aspect isn't a simple side plot it is front an dcenter through this action packed book. It gave me the creeps and when Reggie fet fear I did too. If horror is your thing and you want a good YA example of it this book is for you. I can't wait to pick up the sequel.

Mist

Mist - Kathryn James I loved Mist and the world Kathryn James has created. Nell was a remarkable character easy to connect with. This series is perfect for the younger YA readers while still being entertaining to older readers. The cover is to die for as well. I will definitely be on the lookout for more by Kathryn James.
Frost (Mist, #2) - Kathryn James I loved this book as much as the first! Frost wastes no time getting back into the action bringing you back to the world you learned to love in Mist. It ties up all the loose ends greatly and the ending was perfect. I especially love how Nell is still true to herself and while she has inevitably changed it is for the better.

Blue moon promise (Under Texas Stars)

Blue Moon Promise - Colleen Coble Collen Coble delivers again. Blue Moon Promise is a suspensfull and romantic tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Heart warming and tear jerking you will remember this book for a while even after you finish.

A Tailor-Made Bride

A Tailor-Made Bride - Karen Witemeyer I adored this book! It was a perfect blend of humor and action. Hannah is definitely a girl you can relate to and will soon feel like your best friend. You will be hooked on this book from page one and never want to put it down.
